Subject:Saturn ran away :(
Security:Public

But Jupiter is in view!
And only a measly 375 million miles away. Roughly.

The smudge next to it is the moon, Io. My photography skills are improving, though.
I'll keep an eye on it... the big red spot was on the other side tonight...

My step mother's mother saw Saturn for the first time, and likely last time in her life... and was very impressed... although she couldn't see in the greatest detail... and the telescope's eyepiece kept fogging up last night. She said... "I see it! I see it! Wow! It looks like a turnip with a knot on each side! I can't believe that's up there!"

As fun as that was, the most exciting thing for me was successfully finding and seeing M51, commonly known as the Whirlpool Galaxy... seeing 100 billion stars, 23 million light years away is pretty neat, I'd say. Unfortunately, I have no pictures... as it was hard enough to see at all... taking a picture was out of the question... this time.

Ok... I'm no expert astrophotographer. But over a few nights' time, Jack and I managed to get a decent picture of the moon (beginner level) and a VERY blurry picture of Saturn, which is only slightly recognizable as being Saturn. BTW, both of these images don't do a bit of justice to what you can actually see through the telescope.

Saturn, as seen on a windy night with a bright moon, near Scott, AR.

The Moon, 3/4 waxing, from Miller Road, Sherwood, AR.

"I was, I remember, I still remember when the first time I pointed the telescope at the sky and I saw Saturn with the rings. It was a beautiful image."
-Umberto Guidoni

So... yeah. I saw Saturn for the first time tonight with my own eyes (at least helped by my own telescope) I really wish I had done this years ago... even though I have some beautiful high-res pictures taken by cassini on the computer... nothing is as good as finding, and seeing it for yourself... it looked more like this... though not as clear as this... than the big, fancy pics.... but I could see it well... even the shadow of the rings on the cloud tops. not bad at all. Also... I'm pretty sure I could see Titan, and I checked some really nifty astronomy software... and sure enough, the position matched. So yeah... a good night. Sorry I missed you at lunch today, Mariel.

Mars was out tonight, too. Eh.

Finally saw Paprika (which is funny to say, since it just came out over here). The little independent/foreign film theater in Little Rock was showing it (Market Street)... and apart from the "Phillip Martin" special at the concession stand... it's a decent theater (This is the second time *ever* that I've been there) I liked the movie quite a bit... very trippy, and I like movies where dreams and reality are hard to distinguish from each other. But... I still prefer an anime series over a movie... there's just more time to get to know the characters. Oh... and Susumu Hirasawa did the main theme that was repeated through the movie... so bonus there.

Anyway... if Paprika is showing anywhere near you, and you like odd anime... I recommend it.

After getting to know him for a week... I realize that he's not that smart. I've been calling him "Stupid Cat" a lot, it seems, because he has yet to learn from a mistake... So... holding to that, I've started calling him Baka Neko.

So... that name has kinda stuck. Baka for short.

Yes, I named my cat "Stupid Cat".

Got a kitten today. Been wanting to get one for a while... and didn't for various reasons. But now I have one. Cute little fella. I haven't decided a name yet, but I'll think of one when I get to know him better.

Pancho is a little bent out of shape, though.

Mood: sore

Went to Riverfest yesterday with Warpty and Skoorb. And.... dressed as Boba Fett. Lots of random people wanted pictures with me (mostly attractive jailbait). And I heard "He must be burning up" more than a few times (It was about 90). Yeah... I was sweating like crazy under that armor...(Even though I was telling people I had A/C in there). But what's really funny is the shows I went to... Juggernaut Glitch... I was on stage with them... and I went into the crowd, passing out demo CDs... and cookies. And this guy that I've played Halo with over at Keith's house many, many times. And I enjoyed their shows more than LL Cool J on the other side of the river. Maybe it was the overly packed crowd... and not being able to see all of the stage... verses backstage access... but I don't know. I'm not the biggest hiphop fan either... but I did have a good time. And I got paid for it.

But the best part was walking around as Boba Fett... lots of great reactions... even if that jetpack made it so my shoulders are so friggin sore today. It was worth it.

Today I got tattoo #3... I have officially allied myself with the Autobots.

Also... for those who don't know... I've recently become totally obsessed with NiGHTS into Dreams.

If you've never played NiGHTS into Dreams... I'm sorry... you've missed out on a one of a kind experience. If you have... why aren't you playing it right now? I admit... finding out about the long-awaited sequel (11 friggin' years) sparked my interest in the game again... and for the Wii!!!!! Yeah... I'll be getting that.

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more loner than dependent, more lazy than workaholic, more rebel than traditional, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more extroverted than introverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), romantic (71%), innovative (71%), horny (58%).

Stereotypes
Punk Rock73%
White Trash64%
College Student55%

Life Experience
Sex33%
Substances30%
Travel18%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 78% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Lower Middle Class. You make more than 78% of those who have taken this test, and 28% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG-13.
By the way, your hottness rank is 64%, hotter than 66% of other test takers.
